Are there any health risks associated with Solar Panels?

Hi, I've recently bought a Solar Charger for my iPod touch. Are there any health risks such a's skin cancer or radiation associated with it? If so, do I have to handle it with care? ie wearing gloves or something

Hey Pano, don't worry about the panel. Solar panels are made up almost entirely of aluminum, acrylic and silicone. As long as you don't eat one, it won't harm you. We live in a Solar Powered home, it has been for 11 years. Our panels are large, 12 of them cover the single car carport roof. I have a few portable ones I handle almost daily. We use them for school presentations, camping and other applications. Nobody here has skin cancer, lupus, or a third eyeball yet. Burning coal is certainly more dangerous, each year several homeless people are killed in abandonded buildings trying to heat a sleeping space with a charcoal grill, they end up suffocating. We've been buring coal for years in many of our power plants, and the stuff coming out of the smoke stack does cause cancer, lung ailments, and provide our fish with the mercury in their diet. I'd stick with solar. Take care, Rudydoo
