Can I make one outdoor Lamp Solar ??
How can I make my one outdoor lantern solar ? I want to keep my existing lantern outside my front door but make it so it runs purely on Solar Power.
What would I need to do and buy to do this ?
Its currently an outdoor wall hung lantern, which uses a standard size Light Bulb, wired into a switch and runs off of regular power
there are photocells that could be installed in series with you light that would make it function as a night light to where it would only come on at night automatically, but it would still run off of electricity this way. as far as setting it up to be a Solar Light, it would be alot cheaper to just buy a solar light. i mean it is possible to do it , me being an electrician i can say this, but you are looking at having a finagled up mess by the time you are done, and the hours involved in getting it running right would be enormous. i mean it's like putting nitrous oxide on a chevette, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. why don't you put the light in a different area if you don't want to get rid of it, and buy a new light for out front, one that resembles the one you have already and save yourself some time and money. many really nice lights can be bought fairly inexpensively on ebay or there are several web sights where you can find them. i know you were wanting to keep your existing light, but it is not very economical, i would just relocate it and replace the one out front. hope this helps at least a little.
